Simple Joys Under His Wings

I’m so glad Trish at Lily Rose Cottage is picking up on Dayle’s Simple Pleasures tradition with her new Simple Joys link-up party!  I liked thinking each week what would make a “simple pleasure” – and now a “simple joy”.  I think my favorite word in the phrase is “simple” though often, I admit, my linked posts weren’t so simple.

After a very draining week of work, I didn’t have any energy to post my pinks for Pink Saturday, and only tonight have been able to finally sit down to check in with everyone in Blogworld, Pinterest, and on Facebook.  And, it is there that I found my “simple joy” – a photo on Facebook and a quote on Pinterest – now both in Blogworld because it brings me such “simple joy” when the Lord speaks directly to my heart as He did through this image and these words:

“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.” -Corrie Ten Boom
Thank you, Lord!  Sitting still under the shadow of Your wings . . .

  1. Oh my goodness, that is one of the sweetest photos I’ve ever seen! Nature is a constant source of joy in my own life! I’m sorry to hear you had a rough week, but yes, it’s sometimes the simple pleasures that get us through it all. Hugs,
    Cindy

  2. I needed that one, Kathy:) What a beautiful bird, too!

Have a blessed Sunday and week!

  3. That is a wonderful picture of a bird with her little ones under her wings…I don’t think I have ever seen that. A wonderful simple joy!

Oh the fight song..well I have been researching…my school started in 1881. On different forums the fight song goes back as far or farther than 1940’s. It is printed in our year book…and as recent as 1998 people posted they sang it and was in their year book. Now this is the high school that Barbara and Jeanna Bush both graduated from…yes, President George W Bush’s twin daughters…so they probably sang it also.

What can I say…Austin is a very liberal town..I was very naive and God just kept me under His wing…preventing any high school regrets. His protection is the same today….just like the sin is the same today.

But I was pretty shocked when I started to sing and realized what I was saying…hadn’t said those words in decades.

  4. Kathryn,
What a touching photo…tfs! I REALLY like the quote. I sort of collect quotes and that one is a keeper. HAPPY October, friend.
    xo

  5. P.S> DO you mind if I post that quote sometime on my blog? :)

  6. Kathy, I’m sorry your week has been so tough for you!
Hope the next one is much more joyful for you, my friend.
That is such a beautiful photo you are sharing with us today!!
I saw it on my blog travels last week but forgot who had it – and now you have brought it back for me to enjoy again :-)
She’s such a sweet mamma-and her chicks are adorable!
I’m sure they feel very safe and happy tucked up under her loving protection.
Praying the same for you.. as you wait beneath our Father’s wings.
    love, Trish.

  7. Aw, so sweet! I am now humming the hymn “Under His Wings” What a blessing this post is! Corrie Ten Boom, was an amazing women, maybe we’ll learn more about her one day? Try to rest a little and enjoy your Sunday, and have a great week! Love,Linda

  8. Is that not the loveliest picture of mothers love and protection. Hope you have a restful weekend. xx

  9. Miss Kathy,
I love this quote and the pic does speak to the heart. Our God has a way of talking to us using nature around us if we just take the time to look and listen.
I hope you have a wonderful week ahead and joys to you greatly.
    Love from Texas, Celestina Marie

  10. Oh, that is a beautiful photo and a lovely quote. Thanks for sharing. Also, thanks for letting us know that someone has picked up on Dayle’s Simple Pleasures party. I will pop by Simple Joys, as I love the idea of such a party.

Thanks for your great comment you left about the retro theatre in your town. I am like you…very much in love with the decades of yesteryear. I think that’s why I love old movies so much…they give me a chance to pretend I’m in another time period.

    Blessings to you,
    Patti

  11. Just love this, Kathy! I think about being under the protection of His wings often! Beautiful picture to help us see that!
    Blessings!

  12. I love what the Lord gave you to bring to us. This was a beautiful picture, and I love the quote. I am always especially impressed by the words of Corrie Ten Boom. When I realize that God could bring hope to her heart in the middle of the Holocaust, He certainly can uphold me through my darkest moments.

Praise His name – I rest in the shadow of His wings.

    GOD BLESS!

  13. What a great quote and the photo is fantastic. Here’s hoping you can get caught up this week! I’m still far far behind!

  14. The picture is such a perfect illustration of being under His wings.

Sometimes it is all we can do to get done what is needful, then we must get some rest…not blog for goodness sake! You know we have all had times like that…but Blogdom is still here when you get back. Most of us bloggers realize blogging is not a 24 / 7 pastime and bloggers usually have a life far beyond the internet. That is what makes them good bloggers, having a life!

God is so good to us. He is there for us whenever and wherever we are when we call out to Him.Tired, feeling frail, needing Him.His wings are our only true shelter.

  15. Ooh, you blessed me with this Kathryn!

I have to tell you that I wrote the above sentence then glanced out the window. I thought the sky looked a bit unusual… sunrise light, brighter and different. Just now when I looked up, there is a beautiful rain falling. We haven’t had rain in some time. The sun is still shining with that strange yellow glow and the heavy rain is soft and quiet…

I feel like the baby bird. Protected and trusting… thankful for my dependence that helps me feel safe to just enjoy His world!

    Blessings, Debbie

  16. Kathy, a friend emailed me this wonderful picture of the protective dove a couple of months ago. I love it, and how much it reminds me of the Lord!

Simple Joys sounds like a very nice get-together, and I would like to join when I can. I’ve checked out Trish’s blog.

    Have a glorious day,
    Marianne

  17. I am in awe of this photo.
