In My Own Little Corner . . .

Do you remember the Rogers & Hammerstein musical Cinderella?  You know, the one with a very young and new to the screen, Lesley Ann Warren?  I remember our Brownie troupe meeting ended early the night it debuted for the first time on television back in the mid-sixties so all us little girls could get home in time to see it.  I flew in the door just as that magical gate was opening into a new world of story to whisk my imagination away!

My favorite number was when Cinderella sang about her love for her “little corner and little chair”:

In my own little corner,
In my own little chair,
I can be whatever I want to be.
On the wings of my fancy
I can fly anywhere
And, the world will open it arms to me!
Welcome to MY little corner and little chair:
A place for me to curl up with my most joyful of SIMPLE PLEASURES – reading a book just to enjoy the journey “on the wings of my fancy . . .”
Oh, look – added to my pleasure is the comfort of a cat curled up on my lap along the way.  See, Emma is already waiting for me!
Now . . . what to read?  As you can see, I have plenty of material right at my fingertips – and then some!  But, this summer will be my Beatrix Potter summer.  I’ve a marvelous biography of her, Beatrix Potter:  A Life in Nature by Linda Lear that will whisk me away to Victorian England and sweet village cottages in the lush English countryside following the life of an inspiring woman who took her simple pleasures from Creation, and loved to write.
Me . . . my corner . . . my cat . . . and my book.  A perfect simple pleasure in want only – of a cup of tea.
Sharing my joy today with Dayle’s A Little of This and That at Simple Pleasures!

  1. What a nice little corner to sit in, dream in, read in!

  2. A very English corner. You can almost feel the moors right under your feet.

  3. What a lovely warm corner to curl up with a good book. I was living in France in the mid 60’s didn’t watch much television. I haven’t seen that version of Cinderella. But I do know that song, and it is well suited for your lovely little nook. Hugs!

  4. It doesn’t get any better than this, Kathryn. A cozy corner, a good book, an adorable kitty … and a cuppa. It looks simply perfect to me.

  5. Oh, I LOVE this one! I’m so glad that I found your blog that Pink Saturday. You are a woman after my own heart. I love your simple pleasure, and I really love the movie that inspired it.

We waited every year for that special Cinderella. When I had my first daughter, I could hardly wait to find it on video and share it with her. She used to call it “Ten Minutes Ago Cinderella”. That particular song was the first lullaby that I sang to my girls in the hospital, in fact.

    Now, I’m rambling.

I love your own little corner. It makes me want to fashion one too.

  6. Love your cozy little corner. May you spend many happy hours there. Susan

  7. Yes, I think a cup of tea will really make it just perfect 🙂

  8. I have one very similar 🙂
A small corner of one’s own is always a lovely little pleasure.
    Yours is very pretty, Kathy.
