Catching Stars

Just swirling with activity and inspiration these past couple of weeks, getting Constellation Academy Home School Resources Network in gear for its debut semester coming sooner that we think in September!

After all, we got to June way sooner than anticipated!

So, I thought I’d just invite you to check out my other blog HERE where I’ve uploaded a comprehensive wrap-up of the great Starlight Workshop Tea we hosted this past Saturday.

My Constellation Academy co-horts in all things home education from a Biblical worldview, used my friend, Sandy Smith’s Magnolia Hill Studios as the workshop venue.  She’s in Blogland, too, you know – visit her HERE and enter her world of fine arts enrichment where good things and beauty flourish!

A kindred spirit, indeed.

At the workshop, Nikkole, our Creativity Consultant spoke in a regular workshop segment called, “Spoonfuls of Sugar” – with out-side-the-box ways to teach with play.  We learned how to tweak traditional board game rules to become an extension of math and grammar lessons!  While Adrienne, our Solutions Consultant, shared her trials and solutions as a homeschool mom of primary aged kiddos with helpful tips on the need to BE FLEXIBLE.  Good advice when doing anything with four and six year olds!!

Cindy announced her new Sewing Club – which I’m very excited to see take off!  I have such fond memories of my childhood sewing lessons through the 4-H Club I was in – “The Cutie-Cut-ups”!  So thankful I mastered that life skill early – it has proved so useful my whole life!

I gave mini tutorials about how to teach using the Principle Approach method and we all made our own Guiding Star Notebook in which to keep a record of our journey to becoming a “living textbook” of teaching and learning in our children’s lives.

What I was really excited about, though, was to announce my roster of summer and fall classes for primary, elementary, and intermediate level learners!  This summer I’m doing two three week Shooting Star Reader’s Theatre Workshops featuring the Second Hand Prop & Costume Studio – where we turn trash into theatrical treasures for storytelling!

My three fall classes are 13 week semester literature-driven unit studies exploring language arts and writing, history, and fine arts using notebooking, lapbooking, and portfolio performance learning tools.  I can’t be more excited!!

PLUS – my Parable Players will return to the stage in a medieval morality play titled “The Empty Throne”.  It’s a script I wrote and produced years ago – my son was in 7th grade at the time – and he’s 27 now!!  I’ll be tweaking and adjusting the script to fit the unique talents of my new students – they will all SHINE!!

I hope you’ll click over to read all about the terrific details!  OH!  And, wait til you see what we’re doing with NARNIA!!!

“Education is a discipline—that is, the discipline of the good habits in
which the child is trained. Education is a life, nourished upon ideas; and
education is an atmosphere—that is, the child breathes the atmosphere
emanating from his parents; that of the ideas which rule their own lives”
“For let this be borne in mind, whatever ugly quality disfigures
the child, he is but as a garden overgrown with weeds: the more
prolific the weeds, more fertile the soil; he has within him every
possibility of beauty of life and character. Get rid of the weeds
and foster the flowers”
